Thirty-nine (39) members of the Africa Initiative on Mining, Environment and Society (AIMES) from Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and our partners from Canada, the United Kingdom and United States of America who participated in its tenth Annual Strategy meeting call upon African governments to put in place alternative mining regime, contracts and investment standards for the mining sector in Africa in order to optimise national benefits including integrated national development, protection of community rights and the environment. The meeting was hosted by Third World Network-Africa and took place from June 24-26th, 2008, in Accra, Ghana |
